Still and again the butt of jokes, Clay Aiken actually keeps our minds on the upcoming American Idol 6. |
Kathy Griffin, in her latest stand-up for BRAVO, “Kathy Griffin…is not Nicole Kidman,” uses Clay “Gayken” as her segue and finale jokes, mimicking to the delight of her typically huge audience and still honoring the talent that is the best-selling Idol contestant to date….
A few days earlier (or later, I don’t know), TMZ snaps up the oh-so dreadful details of Clay suffering a case of vertigo during a performance at The Tilles Center in Greenvale, New York….
Oh. The drama.
Does this bastardize Clay’s image? Or does it 1) enhance publicity (for, as the very old saying goes….); and 2) whet auditory appetites for the next long. in. coming. Installment of American Idol?
I will still swoon with the others at the most stunning of singers and singing performances. I will still pick my lazy ass off the couch and vote by phone for my favorite. And I will still laugh—as Clay surely does—at some of the picks and pans of his persona (was it SNL or MAD TV that did the hilarious first skit about the supercrooner?).
After all, I am only human, humored, and one of the massive demos following the movement that is American Idol…which is coming TUESDAY, JANUARY 16TH!!!!
