Concessions Regarding the Whole Vote for the Worst/Sanjaya Debacle

Concessions Regarding the Whole Vote for the Worst/ Sanjaya Debacle by Roxanne McDonald

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Need to make concessions and confirmations here about what VotefortheWorst (VFTW) is really about and is really (capable of) doing.

First, the first news article I read (now I can’t recall which) and based my previous Sanjaya getting votes from VFTW post on had DDT (Dave Della Terza) as the site owner for VotefortheWorst.com, though successive news and discussions point to Howard Stern as the culprit.

If I were to be sued for libel, then (good luck sqeezing this bloodless turnip), it would be because Stern is insulted he is not getting credit for the shock to the democratic system that is the voting process of the biggest show on television.

That brings me to the next concession: In a Bill O’Reilly interview with lawyer Danielle Aidala, O’Reilly, playing the devil’s advocate, asks what happens if VFTW is successful in keeping Sanjaya on for the long term. Aidaila has all kinds of responses—among them a reasonable one regarding how Idol is possibly discredited because of it keeping a bad singer on and how Idol talents are being sabotaged…good talents losing opportunities and a seat which guarantees a recording contract while Sanjaya gets closer to the deals himself.

But Aidala also suggests the fall of the empire that is American Idol. O’Reilly stops her, there, saying that Idol is way bigger than this…what with far too many viewers still watching to have the show fall apart or cancel or whathaveyou.

But I just realized, after reading the abusive bullshit at VFTW and considering all of the slippery slope comments, that 1) Idol is not going to benefit all that much more from such a

conspiracy, if you will (they don’t NEED any extra boosts for their production, as it is already in first place, has been for years, and has nowhere further up to go because of some sufferage at the hands of goofballs thinking they are giving Idol better press), and 2) apparently, the doorknobs pulling this passive-aggressive stunt have done so for two other Idol contestants they/he deemed the worst (Scott Savol and Kellie Pickler)..and made very little difference those times, anyway.
That is, we didn’t see Savol or Pickler take the Idol title. We didn’t see Simon shutting down the show or walking off. We didn’t boycott Idol, etc., etc..

Instead, these sadistic, self-indulgent efforts to malign (whether they are worthy of litigation or not) the voting system have about as much power to destroy as an SNL skit troupe would have success in making George Bush cry. Not gon’ do it, folks.
