I Have My American Idol Favorite: Chris Sligh

Chris Sligh will make an awesome Idol. |
He is the everyman, the funnyman, the dark horse in underdog disguise. Chris Sligh would make the perfect stand-up comic, the best boyfriend, the coolest buddy, and the ideal Idol…American Idol, that is.
Sligh auditioned in Birmingham, Alabama, where he already had Idol predecessors: American Idols Bo Bice, Rueben Studdard, and Taylor Hicks. And just as Beau brought the rocker locks, Reuben brought the 511 or 501
representation, and Taylor brought the grey hair and Bluesabilly sound back to a typically pop culture competition of straight-playing performers, Chris is going to bring his brand of uniqueness. And he can sing.
Hailing from Greensville, SC, Sligh tells the cameras in the American Idol interview room that he has been likened to Jack Osbourne and Jack Black but when he looks in the mirror he sees he looks more like Christina Aguillera. When he enters the audition area and Simon asks why he is there, rather than make the hopeful (and often deluded) statement about being the next American Idol, duh, he says, “I really want to make David Hasselhoff cry.”
And besides bringing to the audition the freshest of unpretentious attitudes, Sligh delivers a superb rendition of Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose”—hitting the highs, reaching the lows, using a soft delivery, and making the range that is signature Seal (very tough to pull off). No bullshit pitchiness, no squealing, no affectation.
I don’t need to sing his praises any further, however, for the guy is all over the net as the marked fav, the chosen one, the one we all want to hang out with, listen to, or vote for…and voting is not for weeks, yet!
