Second chance auditioner might, but two other auditioners will not make it to Hollywood after all. |
Is it ignorance, delusion, or denial that has these people wasting time and exaggerating their hopes for success? Have they not learned of past Idol contestants who were excused from the process because of criminal records? Did they not pay attention to the rules of the contest? Is it clearly stated in the rules before auditions begin?
We saw how Ebony Jointer had the voice but had Simon and Paula doubting her as a candidate for Hollywood because of the way she contorted her face in a most unpleasing way.
We witnessed how she was dismissed, how Simon said they were making a mistake, and how the judges did something they have never done: they called back and invited Ebony to give a second performance.
But once she got the Golden Ticket, snoops dug up some other tickets of a sort, other records…not only hers but those of Akron Watson and Ashlyn Carr. And while Jointer’s records are not necessarily criminal and therefore she will evidently still be moving on, Watson and Carr have been “uninvited”.
First, Jointer is now known for being a member of Chicago Bliss, a lingerie football league (?) that plays in flesh football contests during halftime (according to TMZ.com and Reality TV Magazine). Next, Jointer played the non-speaking role of Bikini Model #5 in Pauly Shore is Dead. And finally, also according to TMZ, the funny face crooner is said to have been on America’s Next Top Model (though I don’t recall her and though the website claiming this specifies Ebony was not a model contestant).
In Texas, Ashlyn Carr was reportedly arrested in 2006 for pulling the sugar-in-the-gas-tank revenge on an ex.
And on to Akron—the person, not the place: Akron Watson was arrested for possession of pot in 2003. American Idol production staff called him and uninvited him to Hollywood.
Spread the news, people. You can strip (or nearly strip or whatever) but you can’t do sugar or dope. At least that is what past Idol hopefuls with records so minor that we at home on a sugar or spliff high balk will tell you.
I will have to look into the details of when the auditioners are actually made privy to the rules.

Ebony Jointer and Ashlyn Carr appear to be confused in parts of this article. Ebony Jointer was not called back for a second edition, that was Ashlyn. Ashlyn was also the contestant that was instructed to not make the faces as she sang. Ebony Jointer was the girl who auditioned with two of her friends on roller skates.

With respect, your article is incorrect.
Akron Watson was indeed given a Golden Ticket, claiming he was up front about his misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession, but was called by AI in November and uninvited to Hollywood with no explanation.
Ashlyn Carr, to my knowledge, was not uninvited despite her sugar-in-the-gas-tank of the ex-boyfriend crime.
The facts your have for Ashlyn Carr and Ebony Jointer are mixed up. Ashlyn Carr is “the facemaker” who was told “no” by the judges only to be asked to audition a second time. The judges gave her a Golden Ticket with advice to work on dropping the facial expressions.
Ebony Jointer is the stunningly flawless Frisco Car Hop who has apparently been on other reality shows and plays on the Lingerie Football League. Theh judges had NO problem giving her a Golden Ticket.

Just to clarify: Ashlynn Carr is the one with the face contortions that got asked back. She is the one who was arrested for the sugar in tank thing. Ebony Jointer is the singer on skates who has the lingerie background.
Also, not really that hard to figure out the rules of the competition. The comparison made in this article is CRAZY. Rules: Do something illegal and you won’t be asked to return. Last time I checked, lingerie modeling and playing football in your underwear was not against the law, no matter how morally reprehensible some members of the Idol audience might find it. Listen, those arrests might have been minor, but I don’t fault Idol for kicking people off who have been ARRESTED and leaving on bikini models. If they make a decision that they want to have an American Idol with a certain image and that person is not Ebony Jointer, that is Idol’s decision to make and maybe they should clarify– for now, there is VERY little confusion as to the limits of who is eligible and who is not. If you have a problem with those limits and the message sent about right and wrong, take it up with the legal system!
