Simon’s criticism has not necessarily decreased in intensity (though it has slowed down for now), but the comments he offers are now taken more seriously. It is round two of single auditions, group performances, and group cuts in Hollywood:
~You are personality over talent at the moment. [You’ve done the Columbian thing, so let that go now and step up your singing.]
~That was just below average.
~J–, it wasn’t as good as the first time around, you know?
~You forgot the words. It’s over now, I’m afraid.
~You sang through your nose and halfway through you looked like you’d been boiled.
~You’re going home.
~Your whole group is going home.
~I’ve got bad news for one of you. The person who is not going through to tomorrow’s final day is — (the only one off key and difficult in group rehearsal).
~You were generous with that guy [to Paula and Randy, who have passed through a mediocre talent]…. They’re all kind of unsafe at this stage…. At the end of the day, you’ve got to get rid of three girls.
~None of you excited me on that performance. Not one.
~You’re all going home: none of you are any good. It’s a terrible start to the day…sorry.
~This is a warning to everyone else out there.
~It’s the end of the road.
