Dress and Seamstress to Impress

Dress and Seamstress to Impress by Roxanne McDonald

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Emphasizing assets (er, external ones, of course) is again the running theme of “Beauty and the Geek,” episode 6—though this time more appealing to the geeks, who get to be immersed in comic book hero glory.

After the geeks dress to impress (in the traditional makeover scene that’s so fun to watch), the beauties highlight their

best physical attributes (what else?) by way of superhero costume and accent (which is, well, not all that exciting, unfortunately). Beauty invents and models/presents. Geek constructs by sewing (gluing, etc.).

Shay becomes Steam, who can’t explain her backstory or her gifts, so we just have to rely on the mini-clothes look and wait a few beats till she’s done.

Erin morphs into Aqualita Splash, who doesn’t seam to have much power beyond that she takes from her “top dolphins” who are doing research? Okay.

Jasmine stretches her creative wit to come up with Princess Bedhead. Her power is that of sleep. Okay, hers is the most original presentation and while not necessarily well-thought out, is certainly quick with the yes-responses to the Comic-Con judges [Eric Powell, Dwight T. Albatross, Brian Lynch, and Chris Ryall] that makes them titter like mad.

Sam just makes more of himself (or more of an ass of himself) with Metro Man, a ridiculous over-exaggerated, oversexed “hero” who has laser dick or laser-impelled sperm, or what????

Natalie is anti-hero Vinity, a vine-covered, vine-transforming thing that does who knows what to overpower her nemeses. Oh, I think she can contort…which she does to the oohs and ahas of the judges. Then again, there’s a lot of that going on, for of course each contestant is in as little clothing as

possible.

Jen goes, overtly, with what we all understand is exploitation of bods and boobs anyway, so she becomes none other than Venus, The Hypnotic Temptress who hypnotizes with her boobs. Yep, she actually thought that up; I couldn’t have done better. And apparently, with the way they sap her mental energy, this power might just work on others, too.

Best [or least worst] costume addition is that cool bustier John makes for Natalie’s Vinity character.

Best line is William’s takeoff of the Simpson’s Comic Book Guy, as he tells his fellow geeks his partner is coming up with the “worst comic book character ever,” in the exact same (hilarious) voice.

At least I think it was Will…, the same geek who on the way to Comic-Con cries he is so excited and happy to finally be going to the premiere comic book convention of the year. A good opportunity for the geeks, even if they couldn’t pull off being like the characters they so adore.
