Ranting About Big Brother 8 on CBS

Hi, it’s Mike Liebner here from TV Robot with an updated rant and rave session about the reality TV show Big Brother 8 on CBS and it’s cast of houseguests.

Big Brother 8 In this article I’ll review what’s been going on in the Big Brother house, plus dish dirt on all of the cast from a to z.

No holds barred!

To put things into perspective it’s Friday, August 3, 2007 and it’s been 29 days since Big Brother 8 premiered on July 5th.

Wow! Has a month really gone by already? That means that the Summer too is half over… or is the summer “half full”???

The last complete BB8 rant I did on the full crew was on July 10th. Now with 24 days of viewing and digesting Big Brother 8 and the companion Showtime series “Big Brother After Dark” I have changed some of my opinions. You can see the original Scandalous Big Brother 8 Rants and Raves Here

By the way, if you really enjoy Big Brother 8 and like to read more into than the show provides, Reality Remix on Fox Reality Network is a great show that often does recaps and offers opinions.

Lately Reality Remix has had Big Brother alumni Marcellas on a few times discussing the shows goings on with host Kennedy. (Hi Marcellas! You’ve been very good on the show!)

Have a watch if you can! Watching Reality Remix every once in a while will make you feel like you know what’s going on with the other reality TV shows we do not watch.

First off I need to say that this crew of houseguests is the most unlikable batch I have ever seen. This is the first season I have watched that I find it difficult to identify with any one guest. Looking at the lineup overall it is disappointing. I simply don’t like too many of them. That said however, I am enjoying watching the show this year. Although last night when they evicted Nick I must say that I was feeling a bit low and even down on the show. I was mad and felt the energy level of the show was way too negative. Too many jerks and wimps in the house.

Last Nick joined Carol, Joe and Mike as evicted Big Brother houseguests.

The episode last night was a wicked and mean spirited one as we saw more of the bad side of Dick than ever. I know the shenanigans weren’t planned out, but it seemed to be a heavy episode with more drama and negative karma than ever.

I almost had to go wash off after all the sludge from that episode…

But, I pushed on after that episode ended and even watched a little bit of Big Brother After Dark and got back in the groove a bit.

It’s Friday, the morning after as I write this and I have forgiven the BB8 producers  pretty much for playing with me the way they did last night and I’m looking at it a bit more optimistically.

The main point I need to make is you do NOT need to like them to enjoy the show. Possibly in fact Big Brother 8 may be more fun to watch when you LOVE TO HATE THEM!

So, with that in mind let me go through the entire cast and give my feelings off the cuff and in detail. I’ll just tell you what I feel when I see the name in front of me. I invite you to do the same (register here and comment on this!)

Carol - 1st houseguest evicted 3 weeks ago. In retrospect I really did not like Carol that much. I may have been in love with her when I wrote my first rant on July 10th, but soon after that found her to be shallow and full of character flaws. She was mean spirited when she knew she was going home and instead of enjoying her time she acted like a baby. She even had fits and cursed at the cameras (only shown on Big Brother After Dark by the way - not on primetime series). So, while I did think Carol looked hot and was initially a good person, I must say I am glad she was the first to be evicted. She was up against Amber - whom at the time I would have preferred to go home. But think about it - would the game be the way it is now if Carol stayed instead of Amber???

I guess that could be good or bad depending on where you think the game went after that chess move. All in all looking back at what happened and could have happened, it makes me realize that this GAME, er, tv show Big Brother and the concept is almost guaranteed to work regardless of who goes home and who stays. Sure, the personalities do make a difference but I feel now more than ever that you could go down Hollywood Boulevard on any afternoon and pick 7 guys and 7 girls and you’d have an equally interesting show. (Possibly more interesting!)

Joe - 2nd one evicted 2 weeks ago. Joe was backdoored. He was also evicted. He pretty much knew it was coming but never gave up hope. Back on July 10th I proclaimed that Joe was the one I wanted to leave the house the most. In retrospect while I did NOT like Joe so much, I did find him hugely entertaining to watch and interact with the others in the house. He was a bulls hitter and everyone knew it. He was larger than life and was amusing to see act like an idiot.

At the time Joe was evicted it seemed like a good way to show that Dustin was the more genuine and decent of a person of the two. That feeling may have changed slightly as Dustin has revealed some things about himself that bring him down a notch. Towards the end of Joes stay he revealed more and more how much he adored Dustin and was acting silly and got blind sighted when Dustin took that as an opportunity to grind the glass into Joes wounds. You can’t feel sorry for Joe as we did feel sorry fir Dustin earlier because of the way Joe acted.

Mike - 3rd one evicted last week. You know Mike was really more stupid than I ever suspected. He was flying under the radar at the onset of the show but once Kail got busted for trying to out Dick and her “Robinson alliance” was revealed, Mike took a wrong turn and decided that it was more important to show “integrity” by sticking with his alliance of Kail (not the other 2 in the alliance surprisingly).

Mike proved to be very stubborn and stuck in his ways of thinking even till the end and after the end as he continued to try and justify that his integrity and loyalty were the most important things to him. Well, sorry but from where I was watching Mike seemed extremely dense and immune from letting logical thinking gain access to his brain. He was somehow stuck on seeming loyal to Kail when she would have dumped him in a moments notice.

Upon reflection I think that Mike was scared. He was afraid of going it on his own without Mrs. Robinson. He eagerly accepted the alliance and tried to stay with it when there was no chance that move would keep him in the house.

It’s ironic that Mike forced his way onto the chopping block alongside Kail last week. He taunted Dick and put himself in harms way to show his support for Kail. Sorry, but that’s stupid. I know Mike is a good decent person, but that does not change the fact that his brain is not thinking logically. and it’s not just me - anyone who watched will tell you that the ‘integrity/loyalty” angle Mike was playing was beyond stupid. It was so stupid it made you look at him as a moron. Sure, a nice decent moron, but an idiot none the less.

Now as far as the “game” is concerned and the TV show, having Mike sent packing definitely will help bring the shows antics up a notch as he was without question the most BORING of any of the houseguests. He lacked personality and wasn’t just quiet. He was un-interesting.

Nick - 4th one evicted last night. Last nights eviction of Nick combined with the negative vibes being spread around the Big Brother house made last nights episode almost unbearable to watch. There were a few scenes when I wanted to fast forward and get past the phoniness and mean spirited lying going on in the house.

Nick was not my favorite houseguest. I did not like him or dislike him. He kind of flew under the radar until his feelings for Danielle took over “his game playing”. While he may have deserved to be booted sooner than later, I must say that I sorely wanted Kail to be evicted. Not only is she boring compared to Nick, she’s a downer on the house.
What was so strange about watching the show last night right before we found out that it was Nick who was voted out was the lies and deception. No one could tell him to his face he was going home. Not even Danielle whom you would expect to be obligated to at least give him a heads up on the feelings of her “co-conspirators”.

Maybe this will be good for the show as losing Nick will get the focus off of him and Danielle snuggling and giggling. Sure, we’ll see Danielle cry a few times in the next few episodes, but now we can at least see her play the game a bit more freely. Nick was an anchor around her shoulders.

Danielle - speaking of Danielle, I can’t decide whether I like her or not. She’s almost kind of attractive and she has moments where she shows some personality and wit, but much of the time we see her crying and tormented. While I am no fan of Evil Dick, her daddy, I must say the crying game Danielle shows us way too often is getting old. Her pent up feelings and frustration is not fun to watch. It doesn’t create drama as much as it creates an unpleasant feeling. I think it’s time for her daddy to leave the game (or Danielle).

Evil Dick - what a dick!

Back on July 10th I was a wee bit sympathetic for Dick and wanted to see him connect with his daughter. Since then we’ve seen a little of that but we’ve also seen much more reason to understand why they have not been getting along. They each only care about themselves. It’s not genuine love between them. It’s fake family love and that only exists in small amounts occasionally.

Dick is also an asshole with such frequency that makes it hard for me to want to root for him. Earlier on in the season when he was quieter and stayed in the shadows more I must admit I was rooting for Dick. Especially when he went head to head with Kail. I was on his side. But since we have seen him have so many spaz attacks and wig out so often we know he is unstable and a jerk. Not only is he mean to most all of the other house guests with rare exception, he is a backstabbing ass with no loyalty.

The past few episodes we saw Dick turn on Nick and let his mean spirited emotions get the best of him despite that angle as being detrimental to his game. In fact he even started saying that after Nick was gone that they got rid of the wrong person. Sorry, too late. It was Dick that helped orchestrate Nick’s demise.

And here is the topper as to why I can’t stand Evel Dick - on Showtime’s Big Brother Too we see the behind the scenes footage. Big Brother After Dark is uncut and as such we see Dick spitting and farting and belching and acting like such a juvenile jerk. He so obviously has so little regards for his housemates. How can they tolerate him spitting like that all the time? If I had to walk around the place and dodge Dicks phlegm I’d be furious.

And the guy smokes so much that Big Brother After Dark is filled with him coughing. We don’t see that so much on the regular show - but inedited - we see how Dick is chain smoking and spitting and can’t complete a sentence without coughing. That really gets old. Watching Dick spit and cough.

Now, I used to smoke and I am very considerate of those that do. But we’re not talking about an occasional cigarette. Dick brought with him like over $700. worth of cigarettes to last the entire season and he smokes them like they’ll never run out.

What is so strange about me ranting on about Evel Dick like this is that I was ready to take him on as my favorite. He had a chance to gain most favored status. He was a genius when Kail was exposed and he made some excellent moves. But once Dick got Head of Household it all changed. He truly became Evil. He was mean. He was rude and gave off negative energy as Jen was saying. Now I agree with her. DIck is what I call a drainer. He walks in a room and the energy level goes down. He wants to bring other people down. Sure, some of that may be strategy and being ruthless is a good trait to have in a competition, but this is beyond that. It’s well… evil. Evel Dick is evil.

Oh well… I can only hope that he somehow gets evicted soon. He appears to be falling out of favor with Dustin and Amber and the others. It would not surprise me to see some HOH put him up again and the house to turn on him. He had a good thing going but getting rid of Mike and Nick was not smart. It was emotional and soon that come to bite Dick in the ass.

Kail - Wow. I just read what I wrote about Kail on July 10th… it was almost prophetic… check this out…

“Kail is definitely a player and is getting all strategic on us right at the beginning of the season. She immediately took the HOH position and used it to grab up an alliance. How strong the alliance will really be is to be seen as no smart cookie would turn down her offer of “till the end”. Why not play her??? Mike, Nick and Zach seem to be in her corner for now, but that will likely change fast when someone decides to gang up on Kail.”

I wrote that 24 days ago before Kail and the Robinsons alliance was even exposed.

Now, here we are and Kail is still in the game, despite her being ganged up on several times. The thing that Dick and Dustin may not have counted on is that the votes to get Kail out may not be around when she gets put up again. That was exactly what happened with Nick. They voted him out -not Kail. SHE is the one I want out the most.

Why Kail??? Well… After seeing her fall apart a few weeks ago when Dick exposed her alliance and revealed her deceptive ways to the house, she became a senseless blubbering idiot. Her movements and gestures all supported the dumb deer in the headlight behavior that became Kail’s essence and remain so a few weeks later.

Kail had no clue she’d be staying. Two weeks in a row she was given a pass and kept in the house. Not because anyone liked her (Mike, the only one is gone) but because the house knew they could slaughter her any time they wanted. No urgency to kill her quite yet. While I do agree to a great extent about her still having the stink on her, I must caution the house to not allow her to become a friend. Kail can’t be trusted.

Amber - Originally I did not like Amber. She grew on me a bit but a part of me always did not like her cry baby ways. Last night again we saw her fall apart and self destruct. Sorry, but that crying shit is more than just an emotional demeanor. It’s downright mental. Yes MENTAL. Amber is mental! She may be a nice sweet girl but the emotional outbreaks she has is disturbing. It’s troubling to watch someone who has so much pain and hurt inside boil over the edge time and time again.

Amber needs some psychological help. She needs something to control that insincere crying. And when I saw her last night lying next to Nick and sobbing and lying to him it made me have even less respect for her. She lobbied to get Nick out and then she pretended she loved him and was for him staying. No wonder she is a cry baby. She is very conflicted and has some serious issues in her own mind. It seems haunted by something.

Let’s hope she leaves the show soon. I’m not sure how much more of her crying I can handle. It’s a downer on the show. Sure, a few strategically placed tears will add drama, but this feels more like a mental ward than a reality game show. Get rid of Amber soon!

Jen - OK… I have had a huge change of heart for Jen. It’ hard for me to admit it, but Jen has earned my respect. Mostly by the way she has handled the rage that Evel Dick has sent her way. She is a winner and handles that with integrity. When he spilled the drink on her head after going off on her last night, she was a champion and took it like a man! Good for you Jen. I never thought I’d be rooting for you but after the way they treated you I have turned on them and am rooting for you.

Now, that does not make up for your bad behavior and vanity issues. Crying over your picture was juvenile and hard to watch. It made me have a strong dislike for you. But seeing the many winning qualities you have has turned me around. While Jen may not be an Albert Einstein when it comes to brains, she is a clever player in the game. She is being very smart about how she plays. In fact so smart it seems that may be why she is pushing evel Dick over the edge.

I really do wish Jen well. I hope she’ll regain the HOH and be able to set things on a different path than the way the show is going.

Dustin - Last week we saw him as HOH and it brought out a different side of Dustin. I could care less he went for the prizes in the veto competition, but what did trouble me was the way he used his power to man handle some of the houseguests. Jen was one of them. I’m not sure why Dustin changed his mind and did not dump on Zach. He just went where the wind blew and sucked up to the house. Also - he and Amber need to be broken up. They are the alliance that the house should be concerned about. It’s all down to alliances of 2 at this point. And those 2 need to be split up.

Jameka - oh boy… don’t get me started… That stuff about divine intervention and God showing her how to play the game is annoying. I do agree with one thing Dick said and that is “do you really think God has time to decide which ping pong ball should be pulled???” I do give her credit for sticking to what she decided even when the house was against her. It could have backfired big time but did not… hmmmm… maybe she is the sleeper…. the one to watch???

Jessica - She is pretty quiet most of the time. I think a lot of that is because she does not know what to say. She’s not entirely stupid. She may just not be a good conversationalist…. It’s also hard to read her. Other than being putty for Eric to mold, she seems to be on her own - no actual alliances.

Eric - America’s player… hey - I think of all the players I may be rooting for Eric more than others. He is handling the chore well. I must say it’s tough to be put in that position. We have not seen how he would really vote or how he’d lobby for what he wants - so it’s not really clear who he is 100%. That said I do like the guy, but the Mohawk clone was not a good fashion move.

Zach - What an odd one. No one seems to like Zach. I can’t say I like him much, but there is no reason to strongly dislike him. You almost have to root for him because Zach is such an underdog. If Zach only had a better personality and was not so obnoxious he may have a chance. As it stands I have a feeling he will be the next to go.

Well, that’s it! That’s how I feel about the Big Brother 8 and the houseguests.
