Smoking, Spitting and Cereal Flinging

Smoking, Spitting and Cereal Flinging by Roxanne McDonald

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket For AmERICa, it was a close call this week. But Daniele decided not to use the PoV, so our boy is one step closer to [and one step away from] making it to the final four.

And $40k richer, which he deserves, for sure.

I could focus on recapping how Dick was instantly attracted to Janelle tonight; how Dick and Daniele reiterate their

power; on how Daniele emphasizes how Eric could be put up on the block but if so, it’s now or never that they do it.
But instead, I feel like checking out how Eric is doing with his America’s Player tasks. Just cause he’s so damned adorable.

Starting in week two, Eric had to tell a sob story to a houseguest, to reveal his softer side: he successfully made up and told to Kail a story about pitiful high school years.

Two days later, his second task was to get Carol voted out of the house. He was credited with successfully doing so.

Eric’s third task was also in week two, on Sunday, when he was told to try to get Jessica nominated. At this point, the two were not all kissy-kissy, and Eric also successfully completed this task. So while the deal is he will earn $10k for every five tasks completed, let’s say he has thus far earned $6k.

AmERICa’s third-week tasks began on Sunday, when he was to feign sleepwalking and climb into bed with Joe, but he only made it as far as the edge of Joe’s bed, in a kind of sleep-sitting position. He just couldn’t go as far as under the covers…. More fun was when he revealed in video-good-bye to Joe that it was his mandated gig for that one.

Next in the same week was the fairly easy get-Joe-evicted job. Done. Get Jen nominated for eviction. Done.

More fun was trashing Jen’s property, a task that is now in the annals of Big Brother as the Mustard Incident, though some might have preferred a Mustard Shampoo for the Jentile. Also in week four was the mission to get Kail ousted. AmERICa failed that time, but I’m not sure one of the weekly tasks should be to get someone evicted, as that takes most of the power all around, and who has such singular power at this satge in the game—four weeks in?

Still, Eric got Jen nominated; and in the fifth week went on to successfully start a catchphrase [“I’ll do that for a dollar!” which isn’t a phrase but a complete sentence but whatever] and again get Jen nominated for eviction. The third of three tasks for the week he “failed” at, trying for the second time to get Kail evicted.

By week six Eric was getting closer to Jessica, and so the task to promise to one houseguest he will go to the Final Two spot with him/her lent itself to his successfully promising Jess. This puts his bankroll at $20k. Not bad if he were to walk out the door that week. Flattering Dick was just too tough [or absurd] for Eric, though while he was decidedly failed at the task was winning a spot as one who looks up to and is heading for an alliance with Dick and company. And good at schmoozing, negotiating, manipulating—whatever you wish to call it—Eric gets Dustin nominated for eviction.

In week seven, it was a tough challenge to give the silent treatment to the very person he has vowed final spot alliance with [and this points not to Eric’s but America’s fickleness], so he failed to refuse to speak to Jess…though he tried by faking illness. But he came back strong when he was told to get Dustin evicted, which he maybe got more credit for than he should have, as Dustin, the dolt, offered himself up in place of the Vetoed houseguest. Carry that credit over to the third task, to get Amber nominated, which he did…mostly on his own.

Week eight was a total slam-dunk, as AmERICa successfully a) gave Jessica his “childhood woobie”; b) got credit for [finally] getting Jen out; and c) getting Amber nominated for a second time.

More exciting for the puppeteers was when in week nine Eric’s first task was to kiss Jessica—to which she said, “About time!” As well, he successfully completed the latter two tasks for the week, helping to get Amber evicted and, though a nasty choice on America’s part, I say, getting Jameka nominated for eviction.

Tonight, on this tenth week of tasks, we got to see some light-hearted fun for Eric, who was to three times mimic Dick. He smoked [pretended to], spit, and sat down next to Dick while he was eating cereal and began to imitate him, even when Dick resorted to flinging cereal to shake off the silliness.

Of course, the toughest of tasks is right around the corner, as depending on whom we choose, Eric will either have to vote get Jameka evicted or vote against Jessica.

I worry that Eric is too much at the mercy of what could be malicious voting, though I acknowledge that he is a smart person [probably the smartest in the House] and has chosen to be the American pawn.

Plus, I see the whole effort to make Big Brother interactive as less successful than it could be [though I have no suggestions for improvement, so my word aint all that valuable on this topic]; and interactivity is not yet a perfected phenomenon for us—though I am not champing at the bit to witness it perfected in my lifetime.

Maybe it is better left to the auspices of literature from when it came…while in this respect it is better depicted [or mocked] not in 1984 but in Fahrenheit 451, in the filmic version.

Still, if we have to have a willing, thoughtful, and good-humored jester-pawn, Eric is the best sport and most reward-deserving of the lot.
