Celebrity Fit Club Contestants: They’re Real People, Too
Celebrity Fit Club Contestants: They’re Real People, Too by Roxanne McDonald

Celebrity Fit Club gives us the inside look at how even celebs struggle to reduce, while it also benefits the individuals on the show and supports needful charities in the process. |
The exercises are brutal: there are workouts and there are also unique competitions that involve more than some poo-butt hiking or stair-stepping races. For instance, two teams compete in manure-shoveling competitions, with the team bringing in the most weight winning. Celebrity Fit Club contestants also do boot camp-style muck crawling, timed and accompanied by the drill sergeant snipes of one Harvey Walden.
Harvey purports to come from a place of concern for the health and well being of the overweight celebrities, though throughout the process any one of them might express their regret, bitterness, or begrudging Walden’s tough love approaches.
The weigh-ins are profound, too. Once a celebrity weighs in, he or she is asked by the panel (Walden, Dr. Katz, and Peer) to respond to the positive (weight loss) or negative (weight gain or stasis). Celebrity performer Angie Stone, for example, reminds everyone how celebrities are real people too, how when she is in her house, she is like anyone else in any other house, having the same struggles, challenges, and joyful moments that anyone else has.
The featured guests also hold important discussions, based on the comments of one or the other regarding, for example, the necessity or ridiculousness of gastric bypass surgery – a subject discussed when Carne Wilson was on Celebrity Fit Club and Harvey Walden has commented that surgeries for obesity were absolutely unnecessary.
ANT, of Last Comic Standing, was the host one season, and consultants have included or include such esteemed professionals as health expert Dr. David Katz, hypnotherapist Marissa Peer, and, of course, gunnery sergeant Harvey Walden.
All the most grueling work is done by those who deserve the most continued acclaim, however:
Ted Lange (of Love Boat Fame); Tina Yothers (of Family Ties); Daniel Baldwin, well known acting Baldwin brother; Kim Coles (comic best known for Living Single); Mablean Ephriam (well-known Divorce Court judge); Joseph R. Gannascoli (most recognized for his role on The Sopranos); soap opera critic Tina Baker; singer Kim Mazelle; Wendy Kaufman (a.k.a. The Snapple Lady); Ralphie May (runner up of season two of Last Comic Standing);
Biz Markie; plus-sized model Mia Tyler; and well-known actor Gary Busey (best remembered for The Buddy Holly Story). These guys are the celebrities made “real” for us, and made into the beauties and skinnies (or healthy ones, rather) they once were. Some – one from each season – win the crown for being the most successful in celebrity fit club, passing on the inspiration to viewers and the monetary benefits to select deserving charities.
What an important celebreality show with manifold rewards is Celebrity Fit Club.
