Dancing With The Stars Season 8 – Gilles Is HOT!

After last week’s double elimination on Dancing With The Stars Season 8, nine celebrities remain. And last night they dance the romantic Viennese Waltz or the dramatic dance of the bullfight, the Pasadoble. Tom Bergeron asked us whose Viennese Waltz will put the competition in a spin and whose Pasadoble will blow us away.

First to perform were real life lovers Chuck and Julianne. Chuck said he was finally going to let his guard down and go for it as he dances the Viennese Waltz. He really did let his guard down and Chuck and Julianne looked amazing as they glided across the dance floor. He bent down on one knee at the end and I thought he may propose…nope!

Len said finally Chuck you have come out of hibernation. Bruno said that Chuck is emerging from the shadows and was really performing. Carrie Ann said that she was going to disagree with these guys and tonight she said that Chuck lost his focus and was not confident. The judges scores for Chuck and Julianne were 7, 8, 8 a score of 23.

Lawrence Taylor is really ready to go home. If nothing else, he has dispelled the myth that all football players can dance. He walked/stomped his way through the Paso Doble with partner Edyta Sliwinska. While the judges commented on his intensity of persona, Carrie Ann was unimpressed by his limited range of motion.

Shawn Johnson displayed great musicality in a Viennese Waltz that was lyrical and simplistic in its design. Partner Mark Ballas choreographed a routine that showed the judges Shawn has the poise and elegance necessary to carry her to the finals. Leaving her gymnastic Lindy Hop in the distant memories of the judges and fans, Shawn landed near the top of leader board this week.

Melissa Rycroft on the other hand did not live up to the judges’ expectations with her Paso Doble. She and partner Tony Dovolani attempted a very difficult routine which Len decreed “you coped well” with. “Coping” is something Melissa will have to beat if she hopes to stay near the top of the pack and in the contest.

David Allen Grier continues to miss the mark as his chemistry with partner Kym Johnson came into question last night. Their Viennese Waltz had Bruno commenting that David “looked like a dog at a lamp post”. In spite of the disconnected quality of the pair, they also landed in the middle of the rankings.

Up next are the couple to beat. They received the first perfect score of this season, Gilles and Cheryl. Tonight they were dancing the Pasadoble. Gilles was excited because he loves martial arts and hoped to bring that intensity to the dance. Gilles and Cheryl were Holy, Holy, Holy…Hot!

Carrie Ann said that the dance was breathtaking and she feels like she is watching someone take it back to the core of the dance and they bring to life the heart and soul of the dance. Len thought it had passion but was a tad hectic in places. Bruno said Gilles you are going for the kill. You nailed it. They received 10, 9, 10 a 29 out of 30.

Jackass star Steve-O and Lacey were dancing the Viennese Waltz. He feels like a winner regardless of how he dances and tonight he to me he danced well.

Len said it was his best dance. Bruno said that the timing was on tonight. Carrie Ann said that they brought a beautiful emotional quality to the dance tonight. Their scores tonight were 6, 6 and 6 a score of 18.

Ty Murray proved that riding a bull for a living doesn’t mean you can dance like a bull fighter. His Paso Doble with partner Chelsie Hightower was stiff, robotic and not so good. Following two weeks of great dances from this pair, the Paso put Ty down a notch or two.

Lil Kim performed a Viennese Waltz that showcased the perfect harmony she and partner Derek Hough have on the dance floor. Bruno had “never seen anybody make the Viennese Waltz look sassy”. This pair is also in contention for the mirror ball trophy.

Week 5 Scores:
Gilles Marini & Cheryl Burke 29
Shawn Johnson & Mark Ballas 26
Lil’ Kim & Derek Hough 26
Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani 25
Chuck Wicks & Julianne Hough 23
David Allen Grier & Kym Johnson 22
Ty Murray & Chelsie Hightower 21
Lawrence Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska 20
Steve-O & Lacey Schwimmer 18
