Whether or not you remember Ned and Stacy and the understated comedy of Greg Germann, David Arquette’s typically under-sung performances, or anything Jonathan Silverman has ever touched his humorous hand to, you will likely be pleased to watch a show with all three brilliant
comics, Germann, Arquette, and Silverman. In a mix of slapstick and mind-tickling malaise, these performers, along with Kelly Hu (who’s not a neophyte comic by any means, having appeared in dozens of shows) make for a “Scrubs” meets “Thirtysomething” silliness that is at the same time refreshingly fast-paced (if not hectic) and pretty, even.
Three high school buddies re-unite, each in his own way no better for the passing of the years and experience(s). In fact, each is equally dysfunctional, disillusioned, dismayed:
Silverman’s character, Harry Kennison, needs to rush to the aid of buddy Arquette’s Jason Ventress, and gets his one-night stand or whathaveyou Hu’s character, Kelly Lee, to babysit against her wishes:
“Oh, please, we’re all whores. I was gonna be Kurt Vonnegut; now I write greeting cards.”
Germann’s Sherman Yablonsky is a successful diet doctor who ironically loses his wife (who of course takes everything with her as he splits) and hijacks an pastry truck, going on an Enetmann’s binge that would shame even competitive eating pros.
And Arquette’s Jason almost makes the Darwin Awards, attempting suicide to escape fraud charges and instead hitting his foot, which lands him in the er where his buddies and Kelly Lee end up altogether….
The hijinx and hijacking and such speed up the pace of the story, as do many of the lines that are hurled almost as fast as a Robin Williams’ set… making for a must-watch, and, further, must-pay-attention experience that is friendly (not only as the characters bond again but as we reunite with our favorites), frolicsome, fresh, and fun.
