Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, episode 5 of season two of the ever-hilarious reality TV show follows Kathy around as usual, taking viewers into the most significant of lifestyle phenomena for the comedienne who [thinks she] has fallen from superstar grace. |
As Kathy and Matt are told by the personal assistant that one of the out-of-control dogs, Pom-pom, has chewed on the leather couch (in their three-million-dollar home, by the way), they decide the dogs need obedience training.
They hire a trainer who comes to the mansion and suggests that Kathy pretend she is a squirrel. Obviously seeing this as ridiculous but ever game for a humorous moment, Kathy gets on the floor on her back and cheeps and chirps. The dog is compelled to play along, but the whole thing is really quite ineffectual, so later, Kathy suggests that since Pom-pom tries to run off the property, they should get a giant squirrel costume, some guns, and scare Pom-pom back onto the property.
The personal assistant draws the line at dressing up that way,
but does concede to acquiring the costume – which Kathy Griffin begrudgingly, sarcastically dons and play acts. Instead of being scared off, however, the dogs jump and bark and playfully bite at her squirrel arms, which are wielding giant, noisy plastic guns.
She can’t deal with the dog drama she says, and instead goes for lunch with close buddies, among them the equally delightful and funny Caroline Rhea.
Leisure doesn’t last long, and Kathy is off to the Learning Annex, where she has agreed to do a lecture-question-and-answer gig for hopeful comedians. They are not that many on the funny track, however, she says, but are really homeless guys and looney tunes.
And
of course the cameras confirm this, giving air time to the questioners and the commenters who talk about fears of getting stalked when becoming too famous and all.
Kathy speaks seriously to the topic of comedy as a business, and says that while many might say they are comedic artists and not businesspeople, they need to be good with it, interested in the business end of it, and careful with it. She gives the example of how people might say she’s cheap and she says that yes, she is, but she also lives in a three-million-dollar house, so they can “fu—off.” And she’s on the D-list? I think not.
