The Last “Lost” According to King

The Last “Lost” According to King by Roxanne McDonald

Best-selling horror author, Stephen King, tells how he would end Lost; and announcers report the moving of the show to avoid being overshadowed by “American Idol”.

Word around the cyber-cooler is that despite its great following, “Lost” will move (for the third time in its short life) from its Fall 2006 time-slot to 10 p.m. (starting in its new season on January 7, 2007), to avoid being [inevitably] upstaged by the returning hit show, “American Idol;” that the name game is not accidental—that, according to writer Doc Jenson of Entertainment Weekly’s EW.com, certain character monikers are “encoded with hidden meanings;” and…that Stephen the KING of horror which sometimes borders on SF had offered his ideas for ending the popular series this season….

The closest connection I have to “Lost” is watching Jorge Garcia (aka Hugo Reyes) on “Celebrity Poker Showdown.” It’s not that I don’t like good horror, or good mystery, or good lost-on-island-with-Selfs-and-Others dramas, but I just have so many other shows in my twenty-hour-a-day TV-watching repertoire that the show is not on my itinerary.

Yet.

One of my geeky friends, however, adores the show enough that he has put the season’s DVD on his Christmas wish list, and next I know, I will be hooked on it along with him.

In the meantime, I do still read and watch with great interest Stephen King’s novels, series, stories, movies, and shows. (I especially like looking for his cameo appearance in his movies…as he does what Hitchcock did in every single Hitchcock thriller—shows up as the driver, the bystander, etc..). So I was intrigued by the Tailsection.com header that revealed King was conversing with readers, fans, and “Lost” followers, and was asked how he would end the Fall season. The illustrious author responded with how he would continue the pov of Jack, flashback to the airport, have Jack “taken away” and pumped for info, hooked up to a machine, and/or fed drugs…and make the finale an exposure of Jack’s having hallucinated the whole series—in a kind of/sort of deus ex machina closing….

The last episode has played through, so how related are the writers’ visions to King’s?

Not that I care…though now that I am looking into the show’s premise, the cast of characters, and seeing that hunky Rodrigo Santoro (Paolo) in a still…hmmm, I might have to reschedule for “Lost”, especially since it will in no way be in competition with “American Idol,” now.
