This can’t be good: JD doing none of the work, getting plenty of food and rest, and taking the largest share of the loot. |
Episode 2 of “Pirate Master” is even more insipid…, but I watch it anyway. I watch for the leadership methodology, which has little apparent strategy—or critical thinking—and which, crafted on a foundation of self-indulgent indifference to the others, suggests JD will soon be feeling the spike of the sword…if not straight into his back then for sure across his throat.
First, as has been pointed out before (I think by Architeuthis, at the ever brilliantly humorous Reality Shack) JD is in some Robert Louis Stevenson world of his own, taking on the captain pirate role of way back when. That is, clearly he is not using any Who Moved My Cheese management styles that would secure his stay on the bad ship Picton Castle.
Instead, he is doling out the duties, relying on the lowly ones to do the work, and while seemingly ignorant to the subterfuge and sabotage plots, is bribing a spy…. All this, and taking half the “earnings”, too.
He’s got Sean cooking, has Jay “playing both sides” by making him message boy, and has several crew members (his and the Red team’s) pee-oh’d.
The Gunner buried treasure yielded 45,000 USD’s worth of doubloons. But Azmyth battled the snakes in the pit, and also found the treasure at the end. How happy do you think he is, mate, that you kept half that stash, gave your officers another 20-25% each, and left 2,000 for the rest, Azmyth being one of the rest?
Any flags there? Oh, yes, you catch wind of the disturbance and steaming dissention in the lower ranks, and you give the Red team a tumble of coins—200 bucks apiece. That is only pissing everyone off.
The next Jolly Roger starts to flap when you ask for gripes at Court, and Louie boldly expresses his and other’s disapproval of their not getting paid enough and not getting enough to
eat; Alexis finds the greedy 200-dollar offer coming out of a 40,000-dollar pocket just offensive; and Christian, despite his being on deck for the potential spike of death, encourages mutiny.
So Cap’n JD has 4 loyals (gee, could that be the four who get the sleep and food and booty?). But the rest are a larger number, with bigger grievances.
Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum will be a different tune next time, I would almost bet…were people in general not so fickle that despite all their griping they might be less than willing to be as cruel to another human as JD appears to be.

I have been trying to lik ethis show but it is so predictable and boring… who wants to see a foot race every episode??? I’ll give it 1 more episode and may have to cut it loose if it doesn’t deliver something I can enjoy.
