Real Housewives Read Blogs
Real Housewives Read Blogs by Roxanne McDonald
Nothing turns a postmodern table like a real reunion with real housewives who give their real responses to our reality blogs written about…. Okay, you get the idea.
While this blogger has her doubts, again, about what Jo is even doing on the show, I also have favorites—those with killer work ethics, like Lori and Vicki, and those who conduct life with a dignity and no-nonsense approach, as Gina does.
So what if they have money? Yeah, that’s a big draw, number one, for the show itself, and number two, is a big topic for discussion. A huge topic. In fact, the running theme of the Real Housewives Reunion Special was how rich and how spoiled many if not most of the “characters” are.
One wife says, “We work, we get our Botox [and plastic surgery]…, it’s hard.”
Another, Lori, I believe, says they are often “called transvestites.”
Another starts a chain reaction of interest and mutual agreement over getting not breast enlargement but reduction.
But most of the women remark how much they have learned, not only from being part of the show but from the constructive criticism of the blogs.
Too, Gina reads the paper everyday. Jo wonders if by news one could count Us Weekly. Lori reads the blogs. And the writing and write-ins are brutal: one viewer writes
to Gina, telling her that unless she still loves her husband she should kick his “sorry ass out.” Others write about how controlling Vicki is (who responds she is not a control freak but is “in control”); how Lori needs less friendship and more rules with her kids; or how spoiled the OC kids are.
But while the moms and kids admit they have it good—what with the shopping, new cars, plastic surgery, and parties and lunches and all—they also have reunited to remind us, by way of Bravo’s senior vp of programming production, Andy Cohen, that we viewers get only small segments of relationships and lives; that they are real people with real feelings; and that, as Vicki articulates, want to get through “this life thing with a lot of fun and a lot of work.”
It’s that work that gives them what many don’t get. And I mean that in more than one way.
