More Strip Search Australia–Can’t Get Enough of Your Looks, Babe by Roxanne McDonald

Strip Search Australia is almost as good for us viewers as being there. The series is a small one, with only eight episodes, but right from episode one a fairly huge demographic is engaged.

There are a couple of reasons for this. One, Billy Cross, the producer and creator of MANPOWER, the strip troupe he is auditioning men for, and his associate, Lea McCloud, go to the boys, rather than having them come to audition at one venue. This search process takes us to the homes and workplaces of white collar and working class hunks who perform for Billy and Rachel in front of bosses, moms, dads, co-workers, and even animals. (One auditioning stripper works as a zookeeper.)

And since the reality TV show was taken up by Reality TV, those of us outside of Australia who may be Aussiophiles can delight in the exotic sounds and moves of some damned fine mates!

In the first episode, Cross and McCloud trek across Australia with the goal of finding what will be a smaller troupe of fifteen exotic male dancers who have sent in audition video tapes. They see Billy, the “good healthy country boy,”

and watch King, who “exudes confidence.” They audition Wayne, who dances in outfits his mom makes for him, who is obviously dance-trained, Billy notes, but who unfortunately is too tiny.

They stop at the home of Jake, where an interview with the parents got this viewer all teary-eyed. After Jake performs a steamy one-man show, Billy asks Jake’s father if he will be able to do without his son for awhile. Dad says he will of course miss him, as Jake does a lot to help out around the home; “but,” he says, “let them have their dreams. Support them all the way.”

Next stop is the zoo, where zookeeper Matt performs, surrounded by chimps and female coworkers who visibly all for Matt’s success.

As the announcer tells us, Matt is “clearly in good with the ladies,” which is a good indicator for Cross as his show’s audience is almost all female, of course.

After Fabian, a dark-skinned hottie, and after many trained, professional, and former performers in such stage shows as “Moulin Rouge” and “Grease” do their informal, in-front-of-familiars auditions, Billy and Lea make for home, where they will decide and call up the contenders. In episode two, we find out who these twenty are, and see them go through their physical and mental tests and training. Mmmm. Lots of body-baring, sweating, and water splashing over muscles and meat to come.
