Ultimate Love Test Participants Making Deals with the Devil?
Ultimate Love Test Participants Making Deals with the Devil? by Roxanne McDonald

I don’t know whether we should poke fun of how silly the people who go on The Ultimate Love Test and Temptation Island are or if we should honor their ballsy courage. |
One of the major premises is whether or not a mate will cheat. Now, we have either witnessed proof of the fact that many partners cheat, or we have experienced it. Further, at least one couple on The Ultimate Love Test, for example, has already dealt with cheating. Brandon cheated on Keneysha years ago, and she still can’t get over it … or trust him.
So what does she agree to do? See him off to an exotic island with a gorgeous blonde. She stays at home and waits for the occasional reports (in living color video format) of Brandon kissing up on Brooke, telling Brooke he wants to “tap that ass,” and of Brandon revealing his true feelings about Keneysha and commitment.
Granted, the couple (of four couples per show)
that completes the “challenge” gets mega-bucks ($100,00) for their future. But why repeat and prolong the torture of being cuckolded, when chances are good you won’t make the grade and/or will not make the relationship any purer with money?
Another seemingly warped strategy on the part of one woman on The Ultimate Love Test is played out by Heather. She adores her man, Frank, but he is so non-committal –after four years—that she takes the challenge, going away on a series of excursions to Cabo San Lucas and San Francisco and elsewhere with an ex- boyfriend who wanted to commit when she had not wanted to … to “test” Frank’s ability to commit by making him miss her and by making him jealous. Oh, yeah. THAT’s healthy.
Further exacerbating differences and grudges, Heather has bungie- jumped with her ex, CR, and now puts the challenge to a mate whose boldest move is to shoot photos of her ex with a rubber dart gun. Frank can’t do it. He says he refuses to do something so ridiculous as bungee jump to prove his love, but hey, the fear is obviously overwhelming the guy more than any rationale.
Okay, here’s another good sport on The Ultimate Love Test: Jayre has announced his ultimate fantasy is to have three wives. So instead of being content with the pretty Carolyn, he accepts the getaway challenge where he will be tempted and wined and dined by, you got it, three gorgeous women.
He almost destroys the somewhat tenuous start he had with Carolyn, so when the perfect opportunity comes along, he is most absorbed in double valances: should he go home with his raging woman, who has had one five-minute meeting with him since the test began and was in that short reunion time cold, off-putting, and angry (though he hadn’t even KISSED one of the temptresses), or should he say yes to the triplets’ invitation to a bash in Mexico or Vegas?
Smart boy.
Though he admits he’d rather go partying with the beauties, he opts to return home to the seasonally cold city and the chilly shoulder of his girl.
Another woman, Amber, lives in Vermont with beefy boyfriend Diego. He wants to do a career and life of family, settled right where he is; she wants to do her art and travel. She takes on The Ultimate Love Test by going away to meet the handsome and successful Dr. Roy, who has vowed to show her all she is missing and all she can have, do, and be. Keep in mind Diego is viewing video-recorded details of Dr. Roy (who Diego honestly finds a nice guy) giving Amber expensive gifts (a camera because she wants to photograph culture of the world), discusses her ambitions, and takes her to Santa Barbara, Mexico, and other tempting places.
Okay, so you know you want out. You want to travel and work abroad somewhere. He doesn’t. You go on the show and do what you have always wanted, and almost the whole while he has to stay at home watching. Torture, anyone? Just go!
No bullying, no guilt-tripping, no jealousy-instigating, no torturing allowed. But wait, would that take more wherewithal, to draw a boundary and stick to it rather than feign doing the “courageous” testing which might lead to cash rewards and coerced compliance?
