Pussycat Dolls Finale One of the Best Ever

Pussycat Dolls Finale One of the Best Ever by Roxanne McDonald

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket The final episode of “Search for the Next Pussycat Doll” was one of the most satisfying reality TV finales ever.

Of course, the appearance of the Pussycat Dolls and their performance of their signature song made for good PR or advertisement or continued advertisement, but their taking of Asia into the clan, and Asia’s instantaneous fitting in by singing, dancing and popping along with the others as if she was meant to be the next Pussycat Doll made this viewer simper and sob…so wonderful was the closure we got.

I know, I know, I may have been overly tired and therefore over-reacting. I may not be giving enough acknowledgement to how great it is that Stefani won “The Apprentice: Los

Angeles” position (though I am thrilled, really). And I may be forgetting the fun and surprise of “Survivor” finales, “Big Brother” finales, and “Amazing Race” finales….
But I found the culminating scenes of “Search for the Next Pussycat Doll” to be so satisfying, delivering such a joyous and right sense of closure–that I kept clapping my hands and beaming with pride as if I were a realtive, or something.
Now, I, like Ron Fair, had an issue with Asia’s vibrato and synchronous fluttering of fingers on the mic. I was rooting for Melissa S, who I thought was softer but a complete package. I also sided with those in Anastacia’s camp. She, too, seemed to be a fine fit. And by the finale, I was thinking that Chelsea was going to take the final prize…until the girls did their solos.

Melissa R. is just so wrong—to me. She sang flat, sang pitchy (Randy would say), and was way to soft and low. But Chelsea seemed weakened, somehow, too. She didn’t move much (though, to be fair, the song didn’t lend itself to a lot of gyrating), and she showed what nervousness she had (as humans are wont to do, of course).

But when Asia appeared, strong, powerful, confident (as has been the running theme of the competition, according to the existing members of the PCDs and Robin), when she belted

out “I Don’t Need a Man” (yes, the best song of the three to have as a solo contest number, granted), when she growled and ground her hips, used animated facial expressions, and delivered a perfectly timed performance…she was clearly the only choice.
And she deserves the role, the title, of the next Pussycat Doll.

So wonderful was it to watch her fit right in, singing and dancing in sync and flipping her hair and posing her sexy self…as a Doll should. [And she did not flutter her fingers on the mic, by the way.]

Congratulations, Asia!

And kudos to Robin, McGrath, Fair, Lil Kim, and the producers…for a most satisfying finale that also became a reward to us devoted “Search for the Next Pussycat Doll” watchers.

Now, what’s this, during the commercial time—with an ad asking, “Do you have what it takes to become the next Pussycat Doll? Go to XXX [website] to find out.”? Does this mean there will be “Search…” number two?

We can only hope.

Addendum: Yes, “Search for the Next Pussycat Doll” is continuing! Calls for applications are happening right now.
