Season 1 Apprentices: What Have They Done, What are They Doing Now?

Season 1 Apprentices: What Have They Done, What are They Doing Now? by Roxanne McDonald

With the new year and in anticipation of another promising season of “The Apprentice,” I thought it apropos that we check in and up on former season 1 Apprentice candidates.

AMY HENRY

Work: Amy reported she had “done some work at CNBC (recaps, commentary, blogging);” and is traveling to promote her latest book as well as speaking at “business conferences and universities.”

Book(s): What It Takes: Speak Up, Step Up, Move Up.

HEIDI BRESSLER

Work: Heidi reports she does up to four speaking engagements a week, is doing consulting for “a very high tech firm,” and is also working on a book and its endorsement deals.

Book(s): I have yet to find the title or working title….

KATRINA CAMPINS

Work: founder/owner of The Campins Company, what she defines as “a boutique real estate brokerage firm that caters to the luxury residential market and represents developers through its marketing and sales of high-end residential developments;” appearing as a weekly

correspondent for ESPN; making regular appearances on CNBC and elsewhere; and hosting the South Florida real estate program, “Step Inside With Katrina Campins.”
Book(s): while Katrina has yet to pen a book, she does appear in a number of “Apprentice”-related titles by Donald Trump, Liza Siegel, and Amy Henry.

JESSIE CONNERS

Work: As reported by Jessie on NBC’s Apprentice web pages known as The Vault (from Seinfeld?) and elsewhere, she is president of Wealth.com and WealthMentoring.com; runs her own hobby farm, chiropractic marketing and management company, chiropractic clinics, and her real estate company specializing in Residential and Investment properties in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Book(s): while no books are listed to Jessie’s credit—yet—it is understandable, for besides running the above companies, she also does speaking and consulting with doctors through her marketing firm, Exposure Marketing.

JASON CURIS

Work: As he tells it, after his appearance on and departure from (in week 2) “The Apprentice,” Jason went “from 11 properties (39 units) to building a property management company that manages my portfolio of 27 properties (100 units) in the city.”

Book(s): Jason is also busy enough to exempt him from the book process, offering motivational seminars to local Michigan (I assume) students and businesspersons.

BOWIE HOGG

Work: after “The Apprentice,” Bowie landed a new career as a management team member for National Care Network in the Dallas/Fort Worth area–running the organization’s marketing department.

Book(s): Bowie, too, makes up for his abstaining from jumping on the publishing bandwagon, contributing to his home community in Arlington, Texas by coaching youth football team, advising high school community service groups, and staying “actively involved in local politics.”

KWAME JACKSON

Work: a favorite on the show, Kwame left without a defeated attitude. Instead, he co-founded Legacy Holdings, LLC, an entrepreneurial company concerned not only with projects in real estate development, TV/film production, and retail apparel but with the larger cause: to “leave a lasting Legacy of African-American

Entrepreneurialism, Capital Accumulation, and Economic development with a focus on ownership vs. consumerism or simple participation in everything we [he and his two partners] do.”
Book(s): As Kwame’s credo goes, “it is not simply enough to ‘ride the bus’ when you can own it,” so it likely follows that he might, rather than write the book, own the book.

Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth

Work: This TV and “Apprentice” fan chooses to omit details of the liar, rather than give more attention to one so undeserving…. There are plenty of sites and bites on this liar.

Book(s):

TROY McCLAIN

Work: The competitor with the easiest sense of humor about him, Troy made it to week twelve of “The Apprentice,” made it into our hometown/homeboy-loving hearts, and made a name for himself and his special maxims—getting offers to do everything from voiceovers to hosting gigs.

Book(s): Among the offers was one to write a book of “Troyisms”—though it is yet to be published…or written. Need some assist writing everything down, Troy?

SAM SOLOVEY

Work: The most controversial (besides, and more likeable than, Omarosa) of contestants, Sam had offered Trump a quarter of a million dollars in a Samsonite briefcase to hire him…. He didn’t get the Trump gig, obviously, but because, as Trump even said, it was such a “brilliant move,” Samsonite offered Sam an “undisclosed sum” for “advertising their product to a TV-watching audience of over 28 million. The innovator who incensed now works as an auctioneer “for charities and corporate fundraisers”; has/had a column on Yahoo!; and has bragging rights to a company he co-founded in 1999, Potomac Tech Wire, which is now eight publications and 80,000 subscribers strong.

Book(s): None yet, but man would they be good reads. Again, Sam, I am here if you want some ghostwriting help. :)
