Andy Furrows His McDreamy Brow over Final Four
Andy Furrows His McDreamy Brow over Final Four by Roxanne McDonald

The bachelor finds something in each that the other three don’t have, making his choosing daunting and difficult, despite how delightful each woman is. |
I haven’t been writing much on “The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman,” but I have watched each week and followed the blogs of the best re-cappers around cyberspace.
But while I defer to the comic stylings of writers like Carrie Grosvenor at Reality Shack, RosesKid at Fans of Reality TV, or the more sober and thorough ranking writings of Phillip Brown at Reality TV Calendar, I have to do a tribute to the final four women, for they are a remarkable group of women for Andy to choose from to find is true love. It is clear why the one they called (and likely still call) McDreamy is perplexed over his having to choose.
One more note, though, before we get started on the individuals. Have you who watch every season of “The Bachelor” noticed how there are typically at this stage four “types” remaining? Is it me or is there usually a teacher (who takes the bachelor to her classroom and/or to meet her
kids); a reticent and withholding one the bachelor feels enough intrigue over that he has to keep trying to pull her out; one with a secret dark side she reveals way late in the game; and the daddy’s girl—the one with a father who gets a little bit intense about being his daughter’s protector (remember last season with the shotgun-weilding drama king)?
Tessa Horst-
What Andy Tells Us: From the first meeting with her, he found her to be dynamic, mature, experienced, sophisticated. In addition, “Tessa is such a goofball, and so am I,” he says. However, he is having to work pretty hard to get her to open up, trust, and connect. In fact, because of all the women left Tessa has not exposed enough of her emotions to him, he is concerned whether there is a “disconnect”.
What Andy Tells Her: “You are so incredible. I feel strongly about you. I feel so much potential with you. The more you open up the more I can open up and the more wonderful this can be.”
[Say goodbye, girlfriend. Once you get all the way to the trusting stage, chances are the intrigue and mystery and challenge will be over.]
Danielle Imwalle-
What Andy Tells Us: Out of the four remaining, she is the most invested. She is tough, and having the common bond of recent tragic losses, he senses in her great strength every time he’s with her. Still, he ponders over if what he feels will make her a lifelong friend or a lifelong partner.
What Andy Tells Her: I don’t know what he tells her, really. After watching the episode twice, I can only see comments about how the family visit was for Andy “like coming home,” even though the father made him go “through the gauntlet.”
Amber Alchalabi-
What Andy Tells Us: He is really into her. Her beautiful smile warms him up every time he sees her. He is so attracted to her: she is so sexy, so good with kids. But he cannot get over the fact she is 23 when he usually likes older (closer to his age) women, and questions if Amber is ready for a
settling down commitment. Andy mentions how mature Amber is for her age, but once he makes his three-rose decision, later adds, at the end of the week and all, how Amber is “…young. She has insecurities. She has a lot of learning and growing to do.” [Hmmm. Is Amber the insecure one of the bunch? Come on, Lieutenant, come up with a less contradictory/better sour grapes rationale?]
What Andy Tells Her: when her family is a no-go/no-show, and she is frustrated and embarrassed, he says that meeting the family is “just one piece of the puzzle”—while the “major piece of the puzzle is [her]….” He also notes a couple of times her “beautiful smile….”
[Uh-oh. “Beautiful smile” is a bit vague a compliment, me thinks, one which a suitor seems to use when there is little else to say that would point to an enduring future. Yup. Amber was told goodbye this week…. After another “beautiful smile” compliment, he says some closing comments about their really great connection but that he believes there’s an even greater connection “out there”…er, in there, Andy?]
Bevin Powers-
What Andy Tells Us: More than other woman, Bevin is more mature. Even better, with Bevin the chemistry is so natural. Every time he sees her, instantly he feels “this current.” Plus, he really digs her athletic side, her sweetness, her beauty, and how she is with children.
What Andy Tells Her: “You’re mature. You know what you want.” Too, because marriage is very important, because he takes it very seriously, he is glad Bevin is past the teenage marriage and divorce and is sure to be ready to put 100% into a relationship before she marries for good.
[Okay, so the dark past of divorce concerns him. Still, notice all the positive adjectives and compliments he bestows on Mz. Bevin? Note how despite how the divorce thing is a hitch he believes or wants to believe that “true love” will override it? I think she will “win”…or, if not, will at least be one of the final two women standing (now that she can stand, that is).]
One remarkable thing about these final four is that they do not stoop to too many infighting, cat-fighting, back-biting measures (unlike those bachelorettes in earlier seasons or like the coo-coo at the start of this season with her “You talkin’ to me?” tirades).
Okay, sure, they got a little jealous over the dripping diamonds (who wouldn’t be at least a little miffed—be honest–that the most withholding one gets something no one else gets?)
These women are beautiful, dignified, authentic, and kind women who are just as much a delight to watch as the crazies. (I still can’t get over the doctor of two seasons ago who confronted the bachelor with how her eggs were rotting…, or that looney toon self-proclaimed princess who insisted her way into Lorenzo’s favor…, or the drunk…, etc. LOL)
