The Fine Line between Somebody He Loves and Somebody He Loves

The Fine Line between Somebody He Loves and Somebody He Loves by Roxanne McDonald

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Was the finale of “The Bachelor: Officer and a Gentleman” ever painful to watch.

Maybe it was because I wanted Andy to choose Bevin. Maybe it was because when a man cries (and if it’s real), I instantly respond in kind. But Jeez, Louise, that Andy and his double valance decision-making torture was painnnnnful to witness.

Taking the two final contenders for the title of Mrs. Lieutenant Andrew Baldwin to his childhood home in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Andy runs Bevin Powers and Tessa Horst through the family wringers. Mom and Dad have been married 36 years, now, and Grandma and Grandpa have been together for a whopping 60—and Andy is hoping to model the “forever” thing.

Tessa wins points here, then, when she is asked where she sees herself in five years and answers by putting family, settled, and very, very happy in the blanks.

Mom describes Tessa as bright, poised, natural, and real,

while sister Suzie expresses to Andy how much she likes her and Grandpa says at Andy’s age, he would have chosen to ask out someone like Tessa. Grandpa is concerned with religion and deeper stuff, so his religion question seems to get a satisfying response when Tessa says she was raised Catholic—though she isn’t really practicing these days.Bevin doesn’t score so well in the religion column, having been raised by both parents in the Baha’I faith, about which the family is clueless. Also troubling Bevin is her liberal way, what with being a future sexologist who will study impotence or waning libido in Alzheimer’s patients and/or menopausal women.

Still, the points pick up when she has a girl chat and describes when she first realized she had feelings for Andy. She says something about how at the third rose ceremony he was on her radar as a serious possibility, and adds that what did it was when he made the gesture of tucking her hair behind her ear…and the women go all giggly and Mom says it’s the smallest of gestures that put us over the top, and Bevin scores.

Mom appreciates in Bevin her gracefulness, beautiful eyes, laughter, and affection toward Andy, which she and Grandma agree is of MAJOR importance. Andy is obsessing, though, and thinking his conservative folk are not telling him everything, so he keeps pushing for commentary. This has Mom telling us she thinks he is justifying his chemistry with Bevin, while Dad reiterates how the electricity is a big point in that regard. Grandpa is assessing this with all the

seriousness of a professor, urging Andy to evaluate the electricity in the context of all the other details/values, as affection may get heavy five or ten years down that forever road Andy wants to travel with one of these two women.Of course, even after family opinions, a fourteen-hour plane ride, and a run on the beach back in Hawaii—where he stops and crumples into crying again—Andy still has no clarity, he says, is still conflicted.

He has told Bevin he is “fricken in love” and has told Tessa he is “fricken in love” and that doesn’t help him decide or US guess. Either way, it feels rotten that he has told each how in love he is and each is therefore pretty damned sure she is the one to fly the airways and swim the seas of Andy love.

Bevin even says there is no way in hell that after that pronouncement on his part that he would leave her standing in the wings without a rose on the final rose ceremony night.

But as we have seen before, not only is there a fine line between cocky and confident, evidently, according to the Iron Man doctor superhero what have you, there is a fine line between somebody he loves and somebody he loves.

I feel like he still hadn’t made a decision, with that, between the hottie and the nottie. I can’t help but think that biological imperative that many men have, to chase the more challenging, forfeiting the given, is often a mistake. But we shall see. Tonight the happy couple interviews on ABC. Let’s watch and see whether there is regret he chose a lovely but reticent woman over a confident one who was crazy about him.
