Fall Season 2007 TV Shows Overview So Far

The 2007 Fall Season TV Show Overview by Mike Liebner

You just never know what a new season of TV shows will bring you. It could be a super good season like when Desperate Housewives and Lost first appeared or it could be a dud.

So far, this season, with a few exceptions seems to lean more towards duds from my perspective. A few returning shows are great… a few new ones are good… a few are outstanding…

While I have not watched everything new that has come out, I really try my best to catch at least the first episode (pilot or premiere).

I understand this is not always indicative of a show in the long run, but let’s face it – we can only watch so much tv before it affects us in strange ways (hmmmmm…)

Right out of the box I loved the new NBC tv show Chuck. Fresh and invigorating just like when Austin Powers first hit the scene, Chuck is a great 1 hour show. It’s refreshing how cool and hip this funny thriller is and how larger than life the characters are. It’s not very often I get drawn into a tv show that does not necessarily have a continuing storyline (individual self contained episodes like most tv detective shows), but this one pulled me in. The visuals and high tech editing are in themselves quite revolutionary and top notch. Check out “Chuck” if you haven’t already – it’s a winner!

Survivor China is back and the reality tv series is as good as ever. The challenges are especially good. China adds a whole new backdrop and freshness to the show. It’s a must see show!

30 Rock is back and also in top form. Easily one of the best comedies on tv. It looks like Alec Baldwin pulled it together and is once again the king of tv comedy. This show has about as many “laugh out loud” moments as any.

The Office – while the episodes are a bit longer than usual, it also has had some incredibly funny laugh out loud moments. When Dwight Shrout killed the diabetic cat and explained why, I almost soiled my pants. as funny as you can get! This show is a winner.

Journeyman – this new show is pretty good, but not a must see show like CSI (original in Las Vegas) which has been gripping from the get go this season. It’s as good as ever.

Returning show Prison Break started off slow in the opener but has regained it’s edge of the seat status. It’s definitely worth watching.

Gossip Girl is a sleeper that came out of left field. Unexpected and not anticpated pure luck (and a good trailer) had me tune in despite my preconceptions it would be a whiny teen soap series like the OC. It’s all that but it works. For now it’s on my list.

The Biggest Loser – awfully long but if you Tivo it you can fast forward through the 90 minutes and watch it in 20. At that length it’s pretty good.

Real Time with Bill Maher – simply the best talking head show on tv. The latest episode with Joy BEhar and Tucker Carlson as guest was excellent. The 1 hour show sped by quickly.

Pushing Daisies – while I appreciate the beautiful bold colors and cutting edge visuals – the premise never made sense to me and after 2 episodes I am removing it from my list of recorded tv shows. Hard to describe why it did not work for me… it just did not click.

Beauty and the Geek – another season with some new twists and I am quite pleased. Very fun to watch!

Big Shots – great cast and not bad but for me something seems to be missing. I’ll watch another episode before I decide but as of this time I am leaning towards removing this from my “to do list”.

K-Ville – Sorry did not click for me. I tried but not my cup of tea.

Bionic Woman – I expected to not like this but it’s better than I thought. while I will not be including this in my to do list – it’s an ok show worth watching if nothing else is on.

Kid Nation – sorry but this show is lame. I watched the first couple but when it hit me – I really started to dislike this show. Waste of time in my book.

Well that’s all for now. I’ll continue the Fall season tv lineup discussion again soon as the verdicts become more clear and concise. Happy tv watching!
