New TV Shows for the fall season are almost here!

Actually I just watched a new one last night (August 23rd) called Vanished which is really good!
The new fall season just started in Summer! More on Vanished in a future review of the season premiere episode from last night! |
When fall “really” comes, you can expect to see a lot of the new TV shows working their way into our consciousness.
The Fall season used to be the only time a network would premiere new TV shows, but that is finally changing.
The change is due to the changing habits of viewers in general. Some networks now put new shows on in the spring, or replace shows that are not doing well in the middle of the season. No matter when they debut, the networks are always fighting to get you to watch and embrace their new shows.
The new Fall TV shows come and go. Get ready for some that you like to quickly disappear like the Heather Graham show that bombed last year. Gone in 60 seconds (practically!)
The lifespan of a TV show depends on how well received it is by the audience in it’s first few weeks. If a network really believes in certain new TV shows, they may give them a boost by putting them on directly before or after a highly successful established show. This is done in hopes that the viewer will simply leave the station on after the first show is over, and will then fall in love with the new show they are presenting.
This often works, even if people aren’t exactly watching it. Some people leave their set on after their favorite show is over, and walk away. They may not be actively listening to the new show, or watching it, but it may become familiar just because it was on. This can be more affective than many people think. NBC did this rather well with their Thursday night lineup at one time. Frasier, Friends, and ER were all top shows, and the network snuck new TV shows into the lineup on that night to gain new viewers. For a while, this was the most powerful night in network television.
Many new shows gained from this, including later hits like Will and Grace. However, no matter how great the time slot might be, it still has to be a good show or it will die an early death. If new TV shows are place up against popular shows on different networks, they may not survive. It won’t matter if they are a terrific shows or not if no one will tune in to give them a go.
If everyone is tuned into Survivor on CBS, and they have been following that show for a long time, it’ll take something especially strong to get them to turn the channel. This is why you may see new TV shows at odd spots in the lineup. They try to put them in spots with less competition so they have a better chance of surviving.
